Interview with Dr. Gabriele Kohpahl

 Dr. Gabriele Kohpahl is one of the great Voices of Guatemalan Women in Los Angeles: Understanding Their Immigration which she published in 1998.  She has combined her knowledge in biology and scientific thinking to the field of cultural anthropology. Born in Germany, she graduated from Georg-August University with a MS in Biology and then came to the University of California Los Angeles where she completed a PhD in sociocultural anthropology. Since living in Guatemala, she has continued to research, write, and advocate for Guatemalan women especially those migrating to the United States. She has taught anthropology, biology, women’s and Chicana/o studies at many universities including Pasadena City College, Santa Monica College and California State University at Northridge where she was recently named Faculty Director of Community Service. gabriele.kohpahl@csun.edu
